LONDON Hotels update

Situated in London's fashionable area of Marylebone, within walking distance of some of London's most exciting shops, art galleries, and high-end nightlife in nearby Mayfair of London- The Mandeville Hotel may have it all. Decidedly high tech with flat screens, dvds, and ipod docking stations, this hotel remains mostly renown for its highly decorated interiors with a Victorian- era edge. The hotel has an excellent restaurant called De Ville with home made ice-cream and has a special Victorian-esque tea room for afternoons.

Jungle Pop

One of our favorite color trends for Spring 2009 is what we call Jungle Pop; a chic mix of brown, black and beige with bright orange, red and a touch of green. Mark Jacobs beautifully interpreted this sultry color trend in the Spring 2009 Louis Vuitton collection. He mixed this intense color palette with sequins, reptile skins and tribal accessories. This color trend captures a look that takes us back to Paris in the 1940’s. Pictured below is Madonna who is the new face of Louis Vuitton for their Spring 2009 add campaign.

LONDON Architecture update

One of the key successes of Spain's Inditex Group is its acute ability to put their retail stores in the best international real estate properties in the world. From Singapore to London, when shopping in Zara, Massimo Duti, Bershka or one of its other retail stores, Inditex is always on the best city blocks around the world. This very modern building is a Zara store on London's famous luxury retail street- Bond Street.

Holiday 2008- Shoe Edition

While planning to wear your most gorgeous Holiday frock, it's almost just as imperative you have the perfect pair of stilettos. Shine, shine, shine is what we recommend. Go for shoes with patent leather details, gold or silver. These black and silver lightning shoes from Pierre Hardy are perfect for little black dresses. We also like these magenta multi-color metallic Jimmy Choos with the matching magenta metallic clutch. When wearing stilettos during the holidays, be sure to wear tights to keep from looking like you forgot it was winter and try color or textured tights to give yourself an update from typical basic black.

LONDON Shopping update

While shopping in London, Trendcocktail visited Matches. This upscale retail store is high-end boutique style shopping at its finest. The store carries well-selected pieces by some of the leading fashion designers in the world- under one small roof. Dries van Noten, Lanvin, Chloe, Matthew Williamson, Bottega Venetta, Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs are just a few of the designers they carry for Women. And for Men, Gucci, Jil Sander, Acne Jeans, and 3.1 Phillip Lim are all in house. Once inside the store, sales attendants almost immediately ask you if you'd care for a beverage- tea, coffee, or champagne. The Matches store concept of carefully selecting the best and most wanted pieces of merchandise from the best designers is genius.

LONDON update

London is an edgy city which is phenominal for shopping, going out, and is almost unbeatable when it comes to multi-culturalism. The grey weather never seems to make people stop loving London, maybe because this city has an amazing avant- garde fashion week and some of the world's best talent in fashion come from the UK like Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and Christopher Kane.

Dell’ Acqua to Introduce New High-End Line

Italian Designer Alessandro Dell’ Acqua still feels there is a need in the retail environment for fabulous high-end clothes. Little black dresses in particular. He is set to launch a new high-end capsule line for Fall 2009 made of 20 black dresses. Set to be worn from day into evening, these dresses will be designed with special detailing like ostrich-feathered collars and silk bejeweled fringes. Fail-Proof Holiday 2008

As we move out of Fall and into the Holidays, Trendcocktail is here to help you make a smooth fashion transition. Parties may be in limited supply this season, so make sure you make each soiree appearance count. We are seeing Feathers, anything Bejeweled, Sequins, Silk and Satin. Headpieces and anything seen as a tad dramatic, is perfect. Carolina Herrera’s Fall line is a favorite you might want to look at with its fashionable feathered collection. Also to work the feather trend as an accessory, try a feathered clutch bag with your party frock. For ramped up Parisian glamour with a serious edge, a favorite is Balmain, their current color palette is Holiday ready in shiny blacks, reds and silver.

Sophisticated Neutrals

There is something modern and updated about the upcoming Neutrals trend for Spring 2009. We are loving these colors being worn with very pale neutral shoes in flesh tone beige and browns, peachy tans or light pale greys. Pure and fluid, these colors somehow help to cleanse the color palette and refresh the world around the wearer. Luca Luca and Maz Azria are just a few designers who are bringing strong neutral collections into Spring.

Electrika Color Palette Races Through

Vibrant, fresh and worn with a fast-beating pulse, the Trendcocktail Electrika color palette is truly adored for Spring 2009. It's important to note, the center color in the runway collage below is piercing electric blue. This electric blue color is almost fluorescent in its brightness and vibrancy. The newer orange hue is warmer and the green in this color palette is updated as more minty than emerald. A sophisticated dark plum fuchsia and a brazilian-beach yellow keeps the color combination festive.

Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel Mobile Art Opening in NY

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Bosworth and famous fashionable European heiress Daphne Guinness were just a few of the friends Karl Lagerfeld invited this week to toast his international Mobile Art exhibit. Hanging out inside the Space Age lounge, temporarily assembled in New York in Central Park, guests sipped on hot toddies as they admired art, clothing and accessories inspired by Chanel. Daphne and Karl seem to have grown very close lately, we saw her at Fashion Week with a pair of Karl inspired silver fingerless gloves which matched unapologetically well to her vintage diamond earring and necklace set (see photo below).

MILAN Architecture update

The city which is Italy's fashion hub has began to walk away from its over-industrial, older and less than modern city interior. Milan is visited by the international fashion set twice per year for designer runway shows and is a base for corporate head-quarters of fashion houses like Fendi, Prada and Bottega Veneta. When we visit we always stay visiting around the Duomo for hours. We love how modern architectural buildings in Milan are finally beginning to tie into the city's creative synergy.

How to wear Winter Lace

As Prada brought us lace for early Fall, we are seeing designers take this fabric through the Winter. Layering lace with heavy tweeds and / or wear it under not so -wintery short sleeve Holiday party dresses. The key to lace looking sophisticated and not garrish, is not to dress in lace head to toe. Mix fabrics and textures to keep the look new and modern.

Men: Back to Black

After seasons of exploration of color on the Men's runways for winter, as well as spring and summer, designers are now coming back to black. Remember a few years ago when Heidi Slimane was at Dior Homme and he made all fashionable men want to climb into skinny black jeans and skinny impecable tailored black suits? After some time the trend was exhausted by skinny men and not-so-skinny men all around the world and we started to see lots of color on the runways of designers like Burberry Prorsum and Etro. Now black is being shown with a sleek, luxe sportswear- like sensibility by designers like Alessandro Dell'Acqua and Calvin Klein.

PARIS Restaurants update

Maison Blanche
15 Av. Montaigne
Paris
+33 147-23-55-99

Located on the uppermost floor of the Art-Deco style Theatre des Champs-Elysees, this restaurant could not have a more fashionable location in Paris. No matter how many times we visit the City of Lights, we can never resist places with views of the Eiffel Tower over-looking the city. And Maison Blanche restaurant gives you this and more with floor-to-ceiling windows and skyline views with sweeping views of the Seine. Once seated at your table in creme color leather chairs, we recommend trying the chef's homemade puree soups or lobster salad. After so much great food, the restaurant is conveniently adjoined to their lounge and nightclub. For a cocktail go to White Bar or after dinner if you are ready for dancing, transfer your party to the White Room nightclub and mingle with the french elite.

PARIS Shopping update

Vivienne Westwood
@ Le Bon Marche
24 Rue de Sevres
Paris 75322
+ 33 144 39 8169

Who doesn't enjoy the shopping in Paris? From must-see designers like Balenciaga to Lanvin, there is always an endless number of couture and ready-to-wear stores just waiting to be discovered. However, when you have had your fill of Parisian designers (if possible), there are many international designers who can be found in stores in Paris that you can visit. When shopping for Vivienne Westwood at Le Bon Marche in Paris, it can make you feel like you flew over to London and landed on Saville Row because of Westwood's detailed tailoring and sewing techniques that offer a surprisingly whimsical take on British fashion.

Jodhpur / Harem Pants

We saw them first this summer in Europe and somehow knew they would become a big trend. Cut full and drapey in the hips and pegged at the calf or ankle, what woman wouldn't want to team these pants with their favorite super high-heels? For Spring 2009, it seems every designer has their version of this pant on their runway and some fast-fashion retailers such as Zara and Mango, already have the super stylish pants in stores.

Designer From Iceland shows in Milan and New York

Fashion designer Steinunn Sigurd is putting Iceland on the Fashion map. The designer recently showed her women's wear collection in New York as well as Milan fashion week for Spring 2009. Now living in Reykjavik, Steinunn attended Parsons in New York previously and has worked for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Tom Ford. Steinunn's designs are both sculptural and feminine and she manipulates fabrics like an artist making a work of art. Texture is usually an element she works into many of her designs, which looks new and fresh for Spring 2009. May of this year, the designer became the first fashion brand in 15 years to win the influential Torsten and Wanja Söderberg prize for Nordic design in Iceland. Trendcocktail likes Steinunn's design asthetic and we think her work is impeccable.

Myriam Gallego and International Expansion

Myriam Gallego handbags from Spain celebrates their 10th anniversary among growing international clientele. Trendcocktail first told you about Myriam Gallego when the company was featured in New York for the Spanish Mile showcasing designers from Spain a few months ago. What caught our eye is the uniqueness of MG merchandise and craftsmanship put into their bags made of fine leathers and other avant-garde materials.

Now sold in Europe, Russia, Singapore, Japan and China coming soon, this company owes much of its success to its unique creativity in design. Magazines such as Vogue, Glamour and Marie Claire have also began to feature MG in their fashion editorial pages. And with bags that are functional and dynamic and some highly conceptual, we can see why. We like their Madrid bag belowthat has an architectural design. If you would like to see more of this company’s recent collection, go to their website to see bags and shoes.

Structured elements and clean angular lines have given way to a new trend of strong architectural shapes in fashion. Design houses Balenciaga and Lanvin have had success in building soft and sculptured shapes in their garments while still maintaining long lean lines with unexpected turns in their construction. Spring 2009 NY Fashion Week / Zac Posen

Zac Posen (center) showed his collection to a celebrity packed audience and delivered a show that had an ostentatious aesthetic. Trendcocktail sat in the front row across from Jada Pinkett and Claire Danes. We also saw Serena Williams and Veronica Webb along with Joy Bryant and Rachel Zoe there to support Zac. On trend showing metallic appliqués and lace, while still maintaining a gypsy rock & roll appeal the designer´s show was also romantic. The pastel color palette and hints of leopard print gave the collection a feminine touch.

Spring 2009 Trend / Surface Texture

Surface texture on garments is a trend that will continue into spring from fall. Who could forget british designer Christopher Kane's Fall surface texture or Givenchy's in Paris? Designer Anna Sui showed a collection yesterday that was bright with colors and had an overall sunny and positive energy appeal. We caught the positive vibe when we saw models like Sasha and Isabella Fontana break out into cute little laughs on the runway! "Did one of the models just smile?", we heard someone nearby ask. Yes, they did! And if any designer can bring a smile to a model's face, Anna Sui can.

The Max Azria show was filled with many fans and friends of the designer. The front row delighted with everyone from Tinseley Mortimer, Lou Doillon, Joy Bryant, Zoe Saldana and Michelle Trachtenberg of Gossip Girl. The clothes were minimalism at its best with a pale neutral color pallette. The fabrics were drapey and fluid made up of silks and drapey jerseys. The whole collection was strong with simplicity and a refined sophistication. We especially loved the sandaled ankle boots.

Calvin Klein in celebration of his 40th anniversary, created an urban oasis at The High Line in Manhattan and filled it with a long list of bold face names and many fashion models who worked to make the designer's legendary campaign ads. The super posh event space was designed by architect John Pawson. The three story structure resembled the company's flagship store on Madison Avenue and was white and grey with skyscraper ceilings. What had been a high railroad area downtown was transformed into an oaisis with a long runway area, amazing lighting and thousands of white roses where everyone hung out and talked. How to wear Winter Florals?

Winter florals have carried over from summer right into Fall with an updated look of darker hues and mixed patterns. Dries Van Noten and Prada florals made the fashion flock swoon for Spring/Summer and we are still loving them for Fall. The updated Fall floral look is smarter and more precise. To break large patterns, use wide or thin belts. To look couture, clash your Fall florals with patterned or colored hosiery.

The Stadsfeestzaal

Trendcocktail in Antwerp

The Stadsfeestzaal is a large hall originally built at the beginning of the 20th century as a permanent site for official festivities. After it was destroyed by fire in 2000, the glass-vaulted hall was renovated and reopened in 2007 as a modern shopping center.

When you first enter the Stadsfeestzaal you will be taken by the great architecture and decoration. The shopping center is home to about 40 trendy stores ranging from clothing, shoes & accessories to tasty Belgian chocolates.

The shopping center is ideally located between the Meir - the city's central shopping street and Hopland, an increasingly upscale shopping street.

There are 2 entries on Meir 78 and the other at Hopland 31 (city centre).

Denim Laser Technology

The newest way to achieve vintage jeans is not through doing the typical enzyme wash. Now the newest way to get stylish vintage denim is through laser denim technology. In this process, lasers utilize beams of light with precision and consistency to produce marks on denim giving the jeans the perfect worn look. Not only does this new laser technology reduce the environmental impact of washed down indigo, it makes unbelievably perfect vintage jeans.

PARIS update

Paris still remains the city that epitomizes glamour and sophistication, especially for the travelling fashion jet set. From Chanel to Christian Dior to Balenciaga, Paris remains a true love to the fashion industry.

When visiting Paris for a few days while trying to make it to all the runway shows, going to the designers celebratory after show parties, and savoring yummy French cuisine, its good to go for a walk in the 8th Amendment fashion district or go shopping at Galeries Layfayette.
If you are used to dancing on tables while sipping cocktails, we recommend changing up the pace and going to a fashionable restaurant that has great food, a stylish decor and a live DJ instead.

NEW YORK Shopping update

The West Village is one of our favorite neighborhoods in New York City. It is everything West of 6th Avenue, From 14th Street to Houston. Most of the neighborhood has a lot of 19th & 20th century brownstone homes & low rise apartment building. The combination of cobblestone streets, prewar architecture and cozy cafes bring back memories from trips to Europe. When shopping in the West Village we recommend you to head over to Bleecker Street between Hudson & 7th Avenue. The Street is a pleasure to walk through. The following is a list of some of the famous designers and brands that have open their stores on Bleecker Street making this area a pleasure to shop & hang out: James Perse, Marc Jacobs, Lulu Guinness, Ralph Lauren, Brunello Cucinelli, Cynthia Rowley, Tommy Hilfiger, Reiss and Juicy couture. There are also boutiques like Intermix, IRMA and Olive & Bette’s all 3 of them carrying different clothing styles for every woman’s taste.

Butik
605 Hudson Street
Danish supermodel Helena Christensen co-founded Butik with her friend floral designer Leif Sigersen. The shop is small & charming filled with treasures they have found in European and American flea markets. They also carry some women’s wear such as delicate simple dressses, lace blouses, sweaters, jewelery, and handbags. The inventory changes often so you might find some children or men’s wear items as well.

Maison Martin Margiela
803 Greenwich St
Highly recommended by Trendcocktail. When walking through the west village make sure to stop
by Maison Martin Margiela. Although it is hard to believe by the front door apperance but this store carries items by one of Belgium’s most acclaimed designers Martin Margiela. The minimalist decor which is all white incuding the staff who are all dressed in lab coats really highlights the merchandise. You will find clothing, shoes & accessories for men & women. Some of the pieces are simple & elegant while others are very avant garde. Maison Martin Margiela is one of the reasons why we love fashion so much.

MEATPACKING DISTRICT DESIGN 2008 was held in the Big Apple this past weekend May 16-18 in this trendy neighborhood also known as Gansevoort Market.
This is the 3rd annual spring design event and each year it encounters some amazing designers who bring their innovative work to the district. More than 35 events including exhibitions and cocktail receptions were held in different establishments. Abe Gurko the producer of the event stated that YOUTH is the theme of the Meatpacking District Design 2008. In his words “not only are we featuring many international designers-never before shown in New York City- but we also wanted to invite you to share the exuberance of youth by looking at design, art and fashion with a fresh set of eyes.” He definitely achieved his goal; the weekend was a success attracting a crowd that was sexy, stylish and ready to mingle.

Cocktail reception held at Vitra, a very chic furniture and home accessories store.

The closing party was hosted at Cielo featuring furniture prototypes by Caroline Mckenty and Mixed media installations by Raphaele Shirley. DJ Alex Graham was mixing a sexy set for a nice crowd of downtown hipsters. What a great weekend!

The Meat Packing district, also known as the Gansevoort market, is one of the trendiest neighborhoods in NYC. LJUBLJANA update

Trendcocktail in Ljubljana

Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, is a dynamic Central European city located between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. Impossibly picturesque and surprisingly very design conscious, Slovenia is the darling of the newly minted European Union countries, and its charming capital, Ljubljana, is earning its description as the "new Prague." (Better start practicing now its pronunciation: lee-oob-lee-ana.) The city mixes cobblestoned piazzas, romantically delicate bridges, and baroque architecture and an unlikely combination of Italian atmosphere with unmistakably euro design details with the Alps as a backdrop.

Trendy bars have begun opening along the city’s river bank where new- money entrepreneurs and artsy designers mingle. Book a room at new hypermodernist Mons hotel just outside town. The cuisine is an artful combination of Italian and Austrian in the city. Make a reservation at Spajza, where delicious local fish is served in a pretty garden. Slovenian wine also surprises—for its price as well as its taste; sample some at the cozy wine bar Vinoteka Movia.

From its very beginnings, Ljubljana’s culture and lifestyle has been attuned to contemporary currents in Europe, while both the Central European and the Mediterranean spirit have influenced the temperament of its residents.

Jet-setters always looking for new exciting cities, have found this capital of Slovenia to be rather charming. High-fashion brand Comme des Garcon put its stamp of cool on Ljubljana recently when it included this city in its temporary stores set around the world. The retailer put over 20 temporary stores internationally in off-the –radar neighborhoods in Ljubljana, Barcelona, Singapore, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Athens and Reykjavik.

Surprisingly modern new architecture has begun to put the city in the category of “up and coming”. It can be compared to Barcelona or Rotterdam five years ago before they started to become known for its design creativity. Even the city's official buildings have amazing architecure, as the Chamber of Commerce building here below.

Up and coming new designers have started to get international recognition in Ljubljana. It has the appeal of cities like Copenhagen for its eccentric design culture. The city now has The Month of Design an internationally recognized festival of know-how and creativity in product design, architecture, fashion, science and branding promoting innovation and creativity in Ljubljana.

BARCELONA update

There is a vibrancy that can not be avoided in Barcelona. From its modern and quirky architecture, to its expanding fashion and arts influence in Europe. With the tradeshow Bread & Butter officially moving from Berlin making Barcelona its sole home, the fashion industry has become intrigued with this city.

Gaudi and other modern architects lead the way for up and coming architects in the city. When visiting Barcelona, many people are marveled by the citys artistic structures and oddly designed monuments in the city.

Shopping in the city has gotten even better recently thanks to many up and coming fashion designers and artists who have emerged during the city’s design explosion that seem to be obsessed with originality.

Barcelona is a city in which its vibrancy comes alive even more at night. Dinner with friends isn’t finished usually until midnight; so clubbing and bars usually start late and end early (early in the morning)!

With some of the best food in Europe, great style, architecture, imagination and tradition- Barcelona amazingly mixes everything for the jet-set world traveler.

BARCELONA Architecture update

The two most famous styles of Barcelona architecture is Gothic and Modernisme. Barcelona is most famous for the architecture of Antoni Gaudi. Barcelona is full of "modernista" (art nouveau) buildings created in the late 19th and early 20th century. La Pedrera or 'The Quarry'' is an important stop on the Antoni Gaudi [b] trail in Barcelona. This quirky architectural masterpiece is now a cultural center with heaps of information about Gaud life.

International architects also love Barcelona. The architecture is part of what's made [b]Barcelona one of the design capitals of the world
. The Gothic Quarter and the Exiample areas have an endless amount of fascinating buildings and unexpected treasures. When visiting the city, you will also marvel and quirky design structures all around the city. Fascinating.

Ûber-cool Copenhagen
Danish capital Copenhagen is hot and very happening – just ask internationally
recognized media such as Wallpaper, New York Times, Time Magazine and
style.com. They have all published articles praising Copenhagen and classify
the Scandinavian metropolis as ‘a must see’ due to the haute fashion, delicious
interior design, fresh architecture, amazing shopping, clubbing, and dining,
and the ever so charming inhabitants. The likes of Anja Vang Kragh at Galliano,
Rikke Runwald in charge of Bazaar magazine line at Christian Lacroix and Roy
Krejberg at Kenzo, have also helped Danish fashion to make its mark internationally.
CPH Vision Tradeshow held in Copenhagen and Copenhagen Fashion Week are bringing
the trend seeking fashion world to the city in droves.

Copenhagen is a walking town and it is warmly recommended to experience
the city district by district. Start with the beautiful city centre and its significant historic
buildings, museums, castles, churches, narrow romantic streets and old townhouses.
And then naturally, plenty of inspiring, fashionable shops, department stores, cafs and
restaurants. In so many ways Copenhagen demonstrates the creative, unbounded thinking
that makes this city a luscious secret for the international trend seeking crowd.

retro-space age feel, a 60s vision of the future executed
with 21st century sleekness
. This is a members club with
an elite atmosphere, though not inaccessible if you look the part–
and can play it convincingly too. Mingle with the chic and
the stylish
as you sip champagne and exclusive cocktails
from one of two bars, then take to the intimate dance floor where
top European DJs play house and soul music.

COPENHAGEN Architecture update

EXCITING ARCHITECTURE

BIG ARCHTECTURE GROUP- built the Copenhagen Scala complex

BIG is a Copenhagen based group of over 80 architects, designers, builders and
thinkers operating within the fields of architecture, urbanism, research
and development. BIG’s architecture emerges out of a careful analysis of how
contemporary life constantly evolves and changes. In their projects, BIG tests
the effects of size and the balance of programmatic mixtures on the triple bottom line
of the social, economical and ecological outcome. Like a form of programmatic alchemy,
they create architecture by mixing conventional ingredients such as living, leisure, working, and shopping.

ORBIT DESIGN STUDIO COPENHAGEN

Orbit was founded on the strength of its designs for interior spaces. Building on
its notable reputation for world class offices (Diageo Singapore, Diageo Brazil,
Bates Bangkok and TetraPak Bangkok and Vietnam) when clients wanted
something different, they gradually and successfully progressed to hospitality
and entertainment spaces. This now includes Wallpaper* and Cond Nast Traveller,
loved night clubs (Q Bar and Bed Supperclub – Bangkok), and leisure facilities
(Umami Restaurant Copenhagen), et al. The company has recently been such
an international favorite for architecture, they have now began to expand into
retail interiors such as Louis Vuitton and Rolex.
